The staff at Mesa Elementary School is dedicated to making a significant contribution to the lives of our students. We believe that our children need to have a positive and safe environment in which to learn. We believe that each child is a unique and special individual capable of developing intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically to his or her greatest potential. We will teach and demonstrate basic ideals necessary for creating responsible, contributing citizens. We believe that parents and the community have a joint responsibility with the school to promote learning. We know that students learn in places that are not schools and from people that are not teachers. Therefore, we encourage the use of parents, community resources and support personnel to enhance and broaden our children's personal and academic growth. We are committed to the design and delivery of a basic and integrated curriculum consistent with the developmental needs of our children as they progress from kindergarten through fifth grade. We will offer experiences in the use and application of information, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making necessary to develop self-directed learners. Students will have opportunities to explore academics, technologies and interests necessary for living in the present and future. Mission Statement The staff and parents of Mesa Elementary School believe that a philosophy that is student based and student driven creates a well-rounded student, encourages children to value their own individual learning, and promotes a desire to reach the highest level of growth and achievement on district, state, and national standards. To live this philosophy we must: Teach to the standards incorporating individual and cooperative learning strategies, technology, critical thinking and problem solving skills, health awareness, and differentiation. Enrich the learning environment and create a love for learning in our children. Help develop self-motivation, social skills, empowerment, understanding of diversity, and integrity in every student. Create a system for students to lead their own learning through the setting and tracking of goals. Broaden systems of support including, but not limited to RtI (Response to Intervention), teaching to student strengths, student learning plans, with parental and community involvement and support.
