Principal’s Corner

Hello,

I have spent over 35 years in education. I have been fortunate enough to have served in many roles from Kindergarten to college and my time has been equally divided between teaching and administration. My degrees are from Colorado State University, Oklahoma State University, and the University of South Florida. I value education. A solid education can open so many doors and prepare individuals for navigating through life.

I have a wife of 34 years and three children, two daughters and a son. Our "children" are all young adults and have spread out from Pennsylvania, to Denver, and North Carolina. My father, age 93, lives with us here in Cortez. Although we have been fortunate enough to live in various locations around the States, Colorado is home.

I am excited and feel fortunate to serve as the principal at Mesa Elementary. There will be challenges along the way, but as I believe the Mesa staff, parents, and community, working as a team, can be successful in helping the students grow and achieve in academics.

Please take time to introduce yourself and visit with me personally.

Assisstant Principal

My name is Melissa Carver,

I am excited to serve as the new assistant principal for Mesa Elementary. I am committed to providing students with the resources, instruction, and character development necessary to excel academically and socially.

I have lived in Cortez most of my life. I am married with two boys. My family enjoys spending time camping, on the lake, or doing outdoor activities.

I come to Mesa with 17 years of teaching experience and two years of administrative experience. I hold a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies (elementary education), a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, and an educational specialist degree in educational leadership. I look forward to having an excellent school year and contributing to the success of our Mesa students.
