colorado state academic standards

Colorado State Academic Standards provide a "road map" for learning - clearly defining what students should know and be able to do at each grade level.  All of our curriculum and teaching is based on Colorado State Academic Standards.

OUR CURRICULUM PROGRAMS

Our middle school provides teachers with the professional development, coaching, and curricular resources that they need to ensure our students are able to meet the Colorado Academic Standards.  Our teachers create challenging and engaging lessons in language arts, math, social studies, and science using state resources and the Colorado Academic Standards.

We also offer a variety of electives and enrichment opportunities to engage all our students in exploring their interests and building valuable skills that they will carry to high school and beyond.

AVID - Preparing our students for success in high school, college, and career

We are proud to offer AVID classes and supports to students in grades 6-8.  AVID is a nationally recognized program that prepares students for success in high school and college by focusing on the key WICOR skills.  WICOR stands for Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading.  We believe these skills are critical for success no matter what college or career path our students choose.

The AVID curriculum, based on more than 35 years of research and rigorous standards, emphasizes teaching which focuses on writing-to-learn, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading for comprehension. This allows college preparatory, AP and other challenging classes to be accessible to all students.

AVID students reflect and question while mastering content rather than just repeating and memorizing. Our students work together to problem solve and to change the level of discourse in the classroom as they prepare for success. Students are taught to articulate what they don’t understand and learn how to seek out the resources they need. By teaching critical thinking, inquiry, and self-advocacy, AVID educators empower students to own their learning.

AVID is being used in over 6,000 schools nationwide and showing great results in supporting student success.  To learn more about AVID - https://www.avid.org/
