MUST READ Letter on Online Learning

March 27, 2020

Dear Parents of M-CMS,

As you heard from our Superintendent, the district will be starting our online school on April 6th.  We are all working to get ready to support you and your child in this new way of learning.  Please take the district survey which is available on our website and Facebook and let us know if you have a need for a chromebook or if you need help with internet access.  Once we know more about your needs, our school will be in touch with more information on how to pick up a chromebook if you need one and how to access the internet.

We are so glad that this time away from school, doing what we love, and interacting with our students is finally coming to an end.  Although we will now be teaching online we have missed our students and can’t wait to reconnect with them virtually on Monday, April 6th.  Your child’s teacher will be reaching out to you next week to share more information about what their online school will look like starting April 6th and to help answer any questions you may have about this new way of learning.  The district will also be putting more information on our website next week including videos and other resources to help you understand the technology we are using for our online school.  If you have questions in the meantime, please feel free to reach out to me at kott@cortez.k12.co.us.

As you probably know the district is starting our school meal service the week of March 30th.  This meal service is free to all children under 18 in our county.  In order to help us prepare the right amount of food we are asking that parents sign up for meals a week in advance.  You can do that by going to our website or the district website and signing up by Wednesday, the week before you need the meals. There is more information about this on our website.  Our counselors will also be available to assist your family and students with finding other community resources or helping your child deal with stress during this time. Teachers and paraprofessionals will be checking-in regularly through emails and video chats and each Friday students will connect with their FIT teachers for Circle-Ups and academic progress checks.   If you need anything teachers will be available hosting regular online office hours every morning to answer your questions or help with students with lessons.

The entire M-CMS faculty is committed to helping meet your child’s academic and emotional needs. We know families are juggling right now and our M-CMS family wants to be there to support you as best we can.  It is important we unite together to help our children maintain their learning so they are prepared for the next grade level. We are all better when we work together!

Sincerely,

Kate Ott, Principal

P.S. The Colorado Department of Education has suspended CMAS testing for the 20219-2020 school year, so there is one less stress to worry about this year.
