The athletic programs at Montezuma-Cortez High School supports the academic mission of the school by equipping and empowering all students to have the ability to experience activities and athletics that will help develop lifelong learning. These athletic programs are an extension of the academic philosophy of M-CHS by teaching the values of teamwork, respect, commitment, pride, work ethic, and sportsmanship while cultivating good health, emotional maturity, happiness and social aptitude in a competitive and wholesome environment. Both athletics and academics at M-CHS put our students first by working together for educational and athletic excellence.        


M-CHS is proud to announce the all conference and all state players from Season A:

Panther Softball player TAIAH WILSON received the high honor of 1st team All-Conference from the West Slope League. 
Taiah led the team in innings pitched, batting average, hits, doubles and slugging percentage. 
Taiah also held a 4.24 ERA after pitching 77 innings for her team.


In golf, THAYER PLEWE was named IML Golfer of the Year (Intermountain League)
In addition to All-Conference, Thayer received top honors as being named to the 2020 CHSAA All-State Boys Golf Team. 
J.J. BRUNNER received 2020 CHSAA Honorable Mention through the All-State voting.

Panther Football is meeting Monday through Friday after school.  Voluntary practices start shortly after school and goes typically for about 1½ hours on the Panther practice field in the back of our school. Starting Monday, October 5th, we will begin having meetings and practices under the Football Leadership Club name through SCYC.  All are invited to participate with Panther Football and the Football Leadership Club.  Snacks are provided most days to athletes in the Football Leadership Club as part of the nutrition portion of the club. If you have any questions contact Coach Mack at

STATE COMPETITION will be Monday, OCTOBER 5th and 6th at the Dos Rios Golf Course in Gunnison, Colorado. The following players will be attending this competition: JUSTIN BRUNNER,  KADEN HUFF,  NICKOLAS MAHAFFEY,  AND  THAYER PLEWE.  Good Luck Panthers!

We would like to Congratulate M-CHS Softball on a well played winning season.
These players took the field during a time of unknown probabilities and reminded us how important teamwork is. We are very proud of you Panther Softball players and coaches!

All Athletes must register and receive an orange clearance card prior to 1st day of practice of their sport at the beginning of each season.

To receive an orange card:

Each Athlete will need to turn in the following items to the activities office clearing them to begin practice:

  1. Physical Examination form with a Physician's signature (print forms located under Participation Forms)
  2. Athletic Code of Conduct for M-CHS & CHSAA with student and parent signatures
  3. Copy of Proof of Insurance
  4. Participation Fee: $60.00 for all sports ($70 for Football)
