My name is Olivia Lansing. I am a lifelong educator and advocate for Indigenous students.

I began my teaching career as a student teacher at Monument Valley High School on the Navajo Nation. My mentor was someone I had known since childhood through my father’s work with the Utah Navajo Development Council (UNDC).

I later taught at Whitehorse High School in Montezuma Creek, Utah, where I taught Science courses including Biology, Zoology, and Integrated Science for middle school students.

A colleague and I started a local chapter of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) to support Indigenous students in STEM. The group was supported by a community donation.

I also coached basketball and volleyball and served as an advisor for the Miss Indian Broken Trail pageant.

After my children graduated from Whitehorse High School, I moved to Chandler, Arizona and taught Biology at East Valley Academy in Mesa. This school focuses on At-Risk students in a credit recovery program.

I taught an accelerated version of Biology where one semester equaled a full school year. My students came from many backgrounds, including Salt River, Tohono O’odham, Black, Mexican American, and Arabic American communities.

I also served as Science Department Chair and participated in university summer research programs for teachers (RET).

My research included work with gold nanoparticles and bio-inspired soft robotics. I brought these experiences into my classroom.

After over 17 years of teaching, I returned to the Four Corners area. I worked as the Native American Coordinator and Liaison for RE-1.

After the loss of my son, I became the Director of Native American Student Services.

I am proud to serve and support our Indigenous students and community.
